With the agitations from all sections of the nation on the inherited constitution as amended in 1999, the need for a review, to suit the Democratic era of the present democratic dispensation of the Nigeria government, a constitution drafted to suit the military regime was looked into by the law making arms of the 9th Senate, with the public hearing on gear.
This event, slated in Owerri was another opportunity for Nigerians to air their concerns, what should and shouldn’t be in the constitution that can bring about the cohesive bonding and Unity of Nigeria as a nation, stabilize and balance the governing system in relations to the constitutional effect on Nigerians from different regions, tribe and religion of the nation.
The Southeast of recent, in a turbulence, following the agitations of the region of been marginalized in a United country, Nigeria, In a revolt of Shootings and attack on uniform men, the Police and the army with the intention to disarm them of their ammunitions points to a direction.
Though this region of the nation, the southeast, haven been patient for years as from the first, second and third republic into democracy in 1999 that is having over twenty years of history in the fourth republic, the concern shown by the Senate of the 9th Assembly is a peaceful resolute, a step towards achieving an end to the marginalization cry from every regions concerned.
Taking laws in our hands brings anarchy. When you engage in shooting with uniform men in the name of whatever and stray bullets escape to kill your own people by your hands, such struggles no longer depicts justice for freedom instead it becomes terror to the people and curse to the intention, which is karmic.
The Nigeria government and the people of southeast must stand against such act now before it gets to them in buckets full. It graduates by the day, we see how innocent mothers, fathers, brothers and sisters now becomes the targets of stray bullets. To bide for another war isn’t an option for the Igbo nation and he, beating the drums of war should know that in one way or the other, he would be affected, so, to what achievements?
The need to embrace the call by the 9th Senate that had been in relative peace in unison irrespective of political differences, is a collective requisite to addressing the situations of the land.
It is known that the red chambers and the green carpet of the 9th Assembly are working cohesively to amend the constitution that seem to be throwing confusion among the ethnic combination of the United Nigeria. Issues are been addressed with the move of this constitution review. The committee for the public hearing of the Southeast headed by the Chief whip of the 9th Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has done a good job of which, in a short while the nation will tow a refined direction.
It’s unfortunate some of our youths have capitalized on the situation facing the nation in their click with politicians to distort the system. It’s unfortunate that no positive results would resort from their present engagements as a solution. It’s also unfortunate that by the time we clap for these wrong actions taken in the wrong directions, the southeast can not withstanding a second fall rather they should sue for a better resort and use this constitution review opportunity to address whatever they seem to be the cause of their marginalization.
Already, it’s encouraging the turn up so far in this peaceful resort by the 9th Senate in addressing the anomalies, bedeviling Nigeria, starting with the constitution. It’s obvious that going back to the 1963 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is a chant among citizens of our great nation.
The impressions by those that attended this public hearing in Owerri, Imo State, shows that Nigerians still desire to remain as one entity in harmony. It’s no crime therefore to remind the Nigeria government to secure the lives of her citizens, those met by strayed bullets of these unknown gunmen, on their door steps have the right to live and be protected by the government. Whatever steps needed to be taken towards ending this growing anarchy must be implemented as fast as possible for as the clouds gathers, let it’s rains not be the showers of the blood of the innocent free born of Nigeria land.
