Hon. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh represented the Speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, at the landmark commissioning of the Portland-NASENI Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Plant and Training Centre. During the event, Hon. Ikwechegh expressed strong support for NASENI’s pioneering efforts to advance eco-friendly energy solutions in Nigeria. He emphasized that the project arrives at a critical time, offering Nigerians affordable, sustainable alternatives to conventional fuels amid ongoing economic challenges. The initiative a collaboration between the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) and Portland Gas—aligns with national goals to leverage Nigeria’s abundant gas resources for energy security, economic relief, and environmental sustainability.
The newly launched facility will not only expand CNG refueling infrastructure but also establish a training hub to equip local technicians with skills in gas technology deployment and maintenance. Hon. Ikwechegh hailed this dual approach as “a transformative stride toward building a greener, more resilient economy,” reinforcing the legislature’s commitment to partnering with innovation-driven institutions and the private sector.
This initiative underscores the government’s broader push to accelerate CNG adoption under the Nigeria Gas Expansion Programme (NGEP), positioning natural gas as a cornerstone of the nation’s energy transition strategy.
