
Rt. Hon. Barr. Ifeanyi Uchendu yesterday honoured the invitation of the Ohafia Improvement Union UK and Ireland as they hosted the 2025 edition of the Ohafia Iriji Ji (New Yam Festival) in London. The colourful celebration brought together sons and daughters of Ohafia in the diaspora to honour their cultural heritage.
In his address, Barr. Uchendu commended the Union for preserving the rich cultural identity of the Ohafia people, describing the Iriji Ji festival as a strong symbol of unity, gratitude, and heritage. He praised the Union’s efforts in not only celebrating culture but also initiating developmental projects that will benefit Ohafia communities back home.
Particularly, he lauded the plan to establish a well-equipped modern Skill Acquisition Centre in Ohafia, describing it as a timely and strategic response to the rising need for youth empowerment and capacity building. He expressed his full support for the project and promised to contribute towards its realization.
Using the platform, the former Deputy Speaker highlighted key milestones during his time in office, including infrastructure development, youth empowerment initiatives, and community-driven projects that impacted Ohafia positively.
He congratulated the Union for organising a successful and vibrant Iriji Ji celebration and encouraged them to continue their laudable work in promoting unity and development among Ohafians worldwide. Barr. Uchendu also praised the Ohafia diaspora community for their resilience and commitment to the growth and cultural pride of their homeland.
