A respected Abia lawyer, Barrister Ndukwo Agbai, has taken a swipe at Chief David Ogba Onuoha (Bourdex), warning him against seeking any elective position in 2027 or beyond, citing what he described as poor temperament and divisive leadership style.
Barr. Agbai, while addressing reporters in Umuahia, referenced Bourdex’s time as Mayor of Ohafia Local Government Area, saying it was marked by disunity and political tension.
“Chief Bourdex’s tenure as Mayor remains one of the most divisive in the history of Ohafia LGA. Rather than unite the various clans, he succeeded in creating deep cracks and mistrust among the people,” he said.
The lawyer insisted that Bourdex’s political ambition has become a source of concern to well-meaning Abians, especially those from Abia North Senatorial District.
“Leadership goes beyond wealth or popularity. It requires patience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to carry everyone along. Unfortunately, Chief Bourdex has shown that he lacks those qualities,” he noted.
According to Agbai, Bourdex’s style of politics is “highly confrontational” and “self-serving.”
“Public office is not a private enterprise. It’s about service, not self-promotion. His attitude towards differing opinions is hostile, and that’s dangerous in a democracy,” he added.
He warned that any future attempt by Bourdex to run for public office would be strongly resisted by the people who have not forgotten the divisions of the past.
“Let me be clear: the people of Ohafia LGA and Abia North are wiser now. We will not allow anyone with a history of polarising the people to come back and cause more damage,” he said.
“My advice to him is simple, do not run in 2027 or at any time in the future. Spare yourself the disgrace, and spare the people more pain,” Agbai concluded.
