A non-governmental organization, Orji Uzor Kalu Foundation, today at the foundation’s headquarters in Abuja, marked the 3 years of the global movement to eliminate cervical cancer.
In 2020, 194 countries resolved to eliminate a cancer for the first time and WHO launched the Global strategy to eliminate cervical cancer as a public health problem.
According to the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Rev. Mrs. Jemimah Ola Kalu, it is a historic response to the WHO Director-General’s call to action in 2018, which catalysed a social movement and sparked an annual tradition, bringing communities across the world together for a Day of Action for Cervical Cancer Elimination.
She urged women and young girls to embark on regular medical checkups, practice personal hygiene, healthy eating, and avoid promiscuous lifestyle.
She stated that the foundation would continue to contribute immensely to the wellbeing of women and children—especially in the rural areas.
