Ahead of the 2023 governorship election in Abia state, the widespread acceptance of the Action Peoples Party (APP) and its governorship candidate, Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu, continues unabated amongst Abians, as massive defections keep hitting the APC, PDP, amongst other parties in the state.
Consequently, the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Isingwu, Umuahia North LGA, today, collapsed its structures into the Action Peoples Party (APP), MUKTV can report.
Speaking at the event that marked the demise of APC in Isingwu ward, the erstwhile Chairman of the party, now a member of APP, Nnabugwu Ohaeri, said the all-inclusive nature of Hon. Mascot Uzor Kalu necessitated their move to APP, as he further decried their maltreatment in APC.
“What happened to us in APC will not happen to us in APP because of who Mascot is.” In APC, after labouring, when it is time to reap the fruits of your labour, the party leaders forsake you.
“But in APP, we know who Mascot is.” He is a man that does not embark on a journey and leave his followers behind. He makes sure he carries everybody along.
“The symbol of APP, the elephant, represents Mascot and what Abians need to march forward, so we are marching forward with him,” he added.
Highlights of the event also witnessed the aggrieved members of the APC tiering their membership cards as they were later handed the banner of APP, their new party.
Recall that MUKTV earlier reported how political bigwigs in Abia state are now defecting to APP. Recently, a chieftain of APC and former deputy governorship candidate of the party to Ikechi Emenike in the 2019 election, Dr. Tom Otuka, dumped the party for APP.
Similarly, a former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and member representing Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency at the green chambers, Rt. Hon. Arua Arunsi is another recent political heavyweight to join Kalu’s APP after ditching PDP.
